Strengthened dialog and new initiatives have led to greater job satisfaction at iron foundry
At the ULDALL iron foundry in Vejen, better communication between employees and management has led to increased job satisfaction, better cooperation and greater satisfaction with workplace safety. The results of a new satisfaction survey show that even small initiatives can have a big impact.
Job satisfaction at the ULDALL iron foundry in Vejen is improving year after year. This is evident from the latest job satisfaction survey among the company's employees, who participated in the survey for the third year in a row. The main reason for the improvement is the significantly improved dialog between management and employees.
- Together with the employees, we have taken several initiatives to strengthen communication within the workplace, and this has contributed to improved well-being. For example, there is now a much greater focus on having an ongoing dialog about initiatives that improve working conditions. For example, we have encouraged employees to go to their immediate manager if they have suggestions for things that can be changed, and we hold more dialog meetings where employees actively participate, voice their opinions and make suggestions on how working conditions can be even better, says Kurt Olsen, Production Director at ULDALL, and adds:
- Among other things, the satisfaction survey shows that satisfaction with immediate supervisors has increased significantly, and there is progress when it comes to cooperation, safety at work and job content. In general, job satisfaction has increased to a high level, not least because employees have played a major role in the efforts to make improvements.
High engagement among employees
All employees have participated in the survey, which shows a high level of engagement among ULDALL's 47 employees. Based on the dialog between management and employees, action plans have been developed in the areas of learning and development, values, working conditions, simplicity, collaboration, overall management and safety. In total, more than 20 small and large initiatives have been taken to strengthen well-being.
For example, employees have been given new equipment so they can perform their tasks better, and the dialog has shown, among other things, that employees are happy to have freedom with responsibility and appreciate that they are granted courses. One of the most important areas is safety, which has also been prioritized.
- Safety is a good example of an area that is of great importance to employees at an iron foundry. Among other things, it's about safety equipment and the employees' own behavior in production, and the employees have actively contributed constructive ideas - also because they can see that their suggestions are taken seriously, which is of course crucial for creating good well-being, says Kurt Olsen.
ULDALL is part of BIRN Group, one of the largest foundry groups in Northern Europe. BIRN Group conducts well-being surveys every year in the group's six companies in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Italy. In the latest survey, the areas of job satisfaction and loyalty remain high at group level.
- Job satisfaction and loyalty are very important factors when talking about well-being, and we are naturally very pleased that we score high in these two areas at group level. The results show that our employees are happy to go to work, and their responses give us a solid foundation to work on. We are constantly working to make it more attractive to work in our companies, and the results from the latest survey, where 92 percent of employees participated, show that we are on our way, which is not least due to the efforts of our employees, says Group CEO Claus Beier from BIRN Group.
